Explore the temples and way of life in Mae Hong Son 3 days 2 nights

Day  01 The Memorial Bridge- Lod Cave- Su Tong Pae bridge – Mae Hong Son  ( L )

08.00 Depart hotel from Chiang Mai drive to the Northern of Chiang Mai to Pai we discover one of the most beautiful and famous mountain its views and valley . approximately 2.30 hours arrive Pai stop on the way to take good photos of The Memorial Bridge , this bridge was built during world II and has been immaculately maintained. Japanese soldiers forced villagers to build it in aid of their Death Railway as this bridge would help to connect Pai and Chiang Mai . they subsequently burnt it down.

After that visit to the Lod cave ( Tham Lod ) , this cave is one of Thailand’s most impressive and easily accessible caves , partly for its size , party for its attractive limestone stalactite formations and party for an unusual coffin cave hidden within the main cave. Tham Lod cave is a natural limestone cave system, its main feature is the freshwater steam which runs through the middle of the cave for about 200-300 meters. inside it ‘s walls are covered with massive formations and columns over 20 meters high. The cave is also home to large numbers of bats and swifts.

Continue to Su Tong Pae bridge, The name of the Su Tong Pae bridge translates to “Successful prayer “in the Tai Yai language The land for this bridge was donated by the local community and the villagers constructed the bridge out of bamboo.  Good to know the local people belive, if you walk along the bridge you may wish . and your wish will come true. After that drive to Mae Hong Son and overnight.

Day 02   City temples – Boat trip to Long Neck Women – Baan Rak Thai ( L )

Breakfast at hotel. Leave from hotel to city tour visit to Wat Phra That Doi Kong Moo,  this temple reflects the strong influence of the Burma . The main feature is the large pagoda in the middle of temple compound that is belied enshrines the bones of Mokkhalana Monk , the main follower of the load Buddha. The highlights of this attraction are the two lavishly decorated pagodas . Also this hilltop temple affords an exceptional aerial view of the city and surrounding mountains and valley.  Continue to Wat Chong Kham and Chong Klang where a replica of the Phra Phuttha Sihing is installed on an altar. There are several interesting items such as wooden figurines of human and animals depicted in the Phra Vejsandal Jakata . created by Burmese craftsmen and brought over in 1857, painting on glass about the Jakata and on Prince Siddhartha , as well as on the ways of life of the time. The captions are in Burmese. There are also notations that the painting were by Thai Yai artisans from Mandalay.

After that drive to  Ban Huay Dua pier take a boat trip a long the Pai River that are full of pleasant nature , you can still drop in the greet the Long Neck Karen tribe at Num Pieng Din , which is a Myanmar -Thai border village .Karen hill-tribe village , with their famous Padong Long-Neck women , these women are worldwide known , wearing numerous brass rings around their elongated neck . It is a practice applied only to women born during the full moon.

After lunch drive to Baan Rak Thai ( Love Thai village )  40 km from the city of Mae Hong Son , is a small highland village with a beautiful lake set in a valley surrounded by hills and tea plantation. The village is famous for its magnificent views and tea cultivation. The village resembles some parts of China and is still heavily influences by Chinese culture today, as it was founded by former Kuo Ming Tang Soldiers who migrated from Yunnan Province .   Stay over night here.

Day 03  Fish cave – transfer to Chiang Mai .

Breakfast at hotel . drive back to Chiang Mai on the way visit Fish Cave ( Tham Pla ) , is popular attraction of Mae Hong Son . The surrounding areas are brooks and Coll hilly forests suitable for relaxation. A special feature is the hollow cave filled with numerous freshwater fish know as Pla Mung or Pla Khang , which is of the same family as the carp. The fish are quite safe from being caught as they are believed to belong to the gods.  Return to Chiang Mai , may by relax with coffee and snack on the way.
